FAQs

What kind of sweeteners do you use? We use a minimal amount of honey and maple syrup. Never refined or artificial sweeteners.

How much added sugar is in each product? Less than a 1/2 tsp of either honey or maple syrup is added per serving.  That does not include the natural sugars found in raisins, for example, or the sugar used to make dark chocolate.

Why does NDF use coconut oil? Coconut oil provides a rich taste to baked goods, much like butter, but it is plant-based and therefore dairy-free. Coconut oil also has health benefits (we should add in the health benefits).

NDF uses a variety of nuts – aren’t those full of fat?  Fat is not the enemy! Healthy fats are found in a variety of foods including nuts, plant-based oils and fatty fish. They are essential for good health, helping the body absorb vitamins, increase good cholesterol and support heart health. Hey, don’t take our word for it. Here’s the, um, skinny from Harvard Med.

Are your products paleo friendly and keto friendly? A paleo diet is a diet void of grains, dairy, refined sugars and is minimally processed.  All of our mixes are made without grains, are free of dairy and only use small amounts of natural sugars, so yes, we are paleo friendly!

A keto diet is when someone reduces the amount of carbs that they consume to get their body to reach a state of Ketosis.  Out treats are very low in carbs, so they might fit into your keto diet regimen, but in small amounts. Many people on a keto diet try to consume less than 20-50 grams of carbs per day.   One ounce of our honey nut mix has less than 9 grams of net carbs.

Are NDF products OK for diabetics? Many of our diabetic customers are thrilled to report that our treats do not affect their blood sugars, but every diabetic is different with a unique metabolism. In general, our products do digest slowly and personally, as a type 1 diabetic, I have no difficulty metabolizing them.

Are NDF products gluten free? Yes, we use no grains, which makes them naturally gluten free. Please note, however, that our products are made in a facility that is not certified gluten free, but separate equipment and extra measures are put in place to avoid any cross contamination.
